In what will be unwelcome news for many, as from 13 January 2018 taxpayers will no longer be able to use personal credit cards to settle their self-assessment tax bills.
This comes as a result of the Government ban on credit and debit surcharges and it is feared the move could be detrimental to many small businesses.
The ban does not however apply to business credit cards, and payments can of course still be made via bank transfers or debit cards.
The changes will also apply to Stamp Duty, VAT and Corporation Tax, but not all government services will be affected.
This is further to the news that, as from 15 December 2017, Post Offices will no longer accept HMRC payments due to the withdrawal of the Post Office Transcash service.
