Following a review, the Government have made changes to the Job Support Scheme (JSS) to provide additional aid to eligible employers who are dealing with the challenges created by the coronavirus.

There are now two different parts to the Job Support Scheme:

  • JSS Open For businesses that are operating but facing decreased demand.
  • JSS ClosedFor businesses that are legally required to close their premises as a direct result of coronavirus restrictions set by the Government.

The Job Support Scheme will replace the Job Retention Scheme (JRS) which will end on 31 October 2020. It will be open from 1 November and run for 6 months, until 30 April 2021, with the terms being reviewed in January.

You will be able to make a claim from 8 December 2020.

Similar to the JRS, employees will be able to undertake training voluntarily in non-working hours. Where time spent on training attracts a minimum wage entitlement in excess of the grant payment, employers will need to pay the additional wages.

If you use the JSS, you will still be able to claim theJob Retention Bonus if you met the eligibility criteria.
